In joining the Optum Advisory Trend Analytics Consulting team, you’ll be part of a team that is a leader in health care cost analytics, with a proven track record of supporting health plans across the country through a diverse staff of Actuaries, Data/Research Analysts, and Business/Technology Consultants. Our consulting team has continued to expand capabilities and our consulting presence by identifying, developing, and executing on new and exciting business opportunities.

As an Actuarial AI/ML Director, you will be empowered, supported, and encouraged to use your actuarial and AI/ML expertise as you perform financial analysis and build models that improve health plan competitiveness.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Work with detailed health care claims data to build and maintain models supporting financial analysis using AI / ML techniques
- Address business challenges through AI / ML analytical modeling
- Apply technical skills to complex analyses to draw key insights that reflect an understanding of the overall consulting engagement
- Create visually appealing, client-ready, and accurate deliverables
- Construct logical storylines and manage client questions in areas of content knowledge
Client Engagement Delivery Responsibilities:
- Lead the development of AI / ML forecast modeling projects
- Develop, conduct, and evaluate AI/ML approaches to explain and forecast medical and pharmacy costs
- Collaborate with key stakeholders to identify and develop areas for AI / ML analytical development and exploration
- Serve as an advisor on AI / ML business strategy, operational effectiveness, and analytic best practices
- Design and execute detailed data programs and models using various data and analytical tools (e.g., R, Python, Excel, SAS, SQL)
- Present analytic findings across actuarial and non-actuarial stakeholders
- Develop consistent and appropriate modeling across Commercial, Medicare, and Medicaid business analytics
- Interpret, compile, and disseminate results of modeling analyses with appropriate conclusions and recommendations
- Provide strategic input to the development of project roadmaps and timelines
- Create a team-oriented work climate that enables professional development and encourages creative solutions and strategies
Business Development / Leadership:
- Develop and Manage the day-to-day operations for a team of actuarial and business analysts
- Provide coaching and mentoring to junior consultants and analysts to develop and retain talent within the organization
- Support cross-business collaboration with Optum actuarial and other consultants in pursuing new development opportunities
- Complete financial analysis and develop client business cases for proposed solutions
- Support and actively participate in thought leadership for innovative solutions and expanding consulting engagements

Required Qualifications:
- 10+ years of experience in a healthcare Actuarial role
- 10+ years of experience designing and executing complex data programs, including data extraction and analysis using R, Python, Java, SQL, SAS
- 10+ years of experience acquiring, manipulating, and working with large heterogeneous datasets (claim and non-claim based) and using them to solve business problems
- 5+ years of experience creating efficient and scalable models and developing data storage and architecture solutions
- 5+ years of experience as a people and project manager
- 5+ years of experience leading meetings and presenting data insights to executive audiences
- 5+ years of experience with a wide range of statistical methods, including descriptive and inferential statistics, multivariate regression, clustering, neural networks, predictive modeling, forecasting, machine learning, data mining, and optimization algorithms
- 5+ years of experience developing and deploying predictive models and other analytical tools
Preferred Qualifications:
- Actuarial Credential (ASA or FSA)
- 5+ years of experience working for a healthcare consulting practice
- Proven ability to execute in a highly matrixed organization with competing priorities
- Located or Relocation to Minnesota
