Purpose
The Customer Requirement Lead conducts detailed technical assessments of Metallus’ capability to produce thorough comprehensive reviews of customer’s purchase order requirements and requests for quote. Activities include the management of the inquiry process, which provides support from a manufacturing standpoint to all new steel products in efforts to ensure successful manufacturing of the product, thorough metallurgical/process analysis of customer and industry specifications, problem solving leveraging the use of statistical tools and, ad hoc data analysis supporting various organizations within the company. The Lead acts as a technical liaison between outside/inside sales and our end customer, while working closely with internal stakeholders to drive continuous improvement, support cross-functional projects, and address issues.
Responsibilities
- Conduct complete metallurgical, dimensional, and manufacturing analysis of customer inquiries to establish the company's ability to meet the customer’s specified requirements.
- Conduct thorough metallurgical analysis of all customer and industry specifications to determine the company's ability to meet the requirements.
- Translate customer order requirements for the development of internal purchasing specifications for the procurement of outsource melt.
- Assist the organization in the review of ad hoc capability request.
- Act as Metallus’ technical liaison between Outside/Inside Sales and our end customer to effectively resolve issues, address concerns, and solve complex problems.
- Support the resolution of customer claims through root cause analysis and drive the implementation of robust corrective actions.
- Leverage best practices and identify opportunities to drive continuous improvement with an emphasis on process efficiencies and front-end business applications.
- Engage at all levels of the organization with the ability to work across silos to communicate common goals, solicit information, and gain consensus and buy-in.
- Lead capability focused meetings/projects with internal (manufacturing and commercial) partners and be able to convey technically sound data stories to non-technical audiences.
- Work closely with internal stakeholders to understand design critical customer requirements, identify cost improvement opportunities, and data analytics. Displaying capability and urgency in addressing expedited requirements and reprioritization, demonstrating ownership and accountability.
Technical Skills
- Strong product/process knowledge
- A strong understanding and knowledge of the technical and metallurgical aspects of all phases of steel operations from melting through finishing.
- Strong communication skills due to the high degree of interaction with marketing, operating, scheduling and other technical groups.
- Strong knowledge and understanding of computer information systems (Excel, Access, JMP etc) due to the information data intensive nature of the position.

Minimum Qualifications
- Associates Degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Data Analytics, or related technical field with at least 9 years of experience in steel industry processes and products.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelors Degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Data Analytics, or related technical field with at least 7 years of experience in steel industry processes and products.
- Masters Degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Data Analytics, or related technical field with at least 5 years of experience in steel industry processes and products.
