I. Job Summary
Lead the WM effort to anticipate, evaluate, and control potential health hazards across the WM enterprise by conducting exposure assessments, administering the industrial hygiene database, understanding applicable regulatory requirements and occupational exposure limits, managing the industrial hygiene budget, directing the activities of external industrial hygiene consultants, and collaborating with numerous internal teams (e.g., operations, waste approvals, legal, supply chain, etc.). Role is based in Houston, TX.
II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other minor duties may be assigned.
+ Conduct and report on industrial hygiene exposure assessments.
+ Work interdependently with the disposal operations, sales, and other teams to evaluate exposure hazards associated with special waste profiles and provide judgments about the disposal acceptance or denial of those profiles.
+ Maintain written occupational health programs such as the hazard communication, respiratory protection, and blood-borne pathogens programs.
+ Respond to internal inquiries and concerns related to occupational health matters.
+ Lead reviews of occupational health related regulations and provide judgments about potential impacts on WM. Recommend management actions required to comply with both proposed and existing regulations.
+ Maintain the industrial hygiene database.
+ Manage the industrial hygiene budget.
+ Lead the assignment of industrial hygiene projects to external consultants.
III. Supervisory Responsibilities
Direct supervision of an external team of industrial hygiene consultants.
IV. Qualifications & Skills
+ Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
+ Familiarity with or work experience in the waste industry
+ Excellent communication and presentation skills
A. Education and Experience
A degree or certification in industrial hygiene, occupational health, or a related field is required; an advanced degree (Masters, PhD) is preferred.
B. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations or Other Requirements
Designations as a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) and Certified Safety Professional (CSP) also preferred.
V. Work Environment
A mix of both office and industrial types of work environments. Anticipated travel is 25% - 50%.
