We are currently seeking an outstanding Environmental, Health, & Safety manager to support our Research & Development facility in Palo Alto, California. This is an exciting opportunity in a fast-paced dynamic work environment. The successful candidate should have a strong understanding of Environmental, Health, Safety principles, general working knowledge of applicable EHS regulations, strong problem-solving capability, excellent communication skills, and demonstrated leadership skills.
Responsibilities
- LEADERSHIP: Provide leadership in setting overall strategic site R&D EHS goals and milestones/deliverables in accordance with the Corporate and annual EHS Research & Development directives. Ensure that the R&D site operations and functions are conducted in accordance with local regulations and our core values around Environmental, Health, & Safety.
- PEOPLE MANAGEMENT: Responsible for managing site EHS team including mentoring and career development. Active member of the R&D Global EHS team. Helps the site continue its safety improvement journey.
- PROGRAM MANAGEMENT: Responsible for managing site R&D EHS programs and associated audits. Programs will include but are not limited to: Boiler and pilot plants, wastewater, solid waste, hazardous waste, air emissions, storm water, enzyme safety, confined space entry, electrical safety, emergency response, hazard communication, hearing conservation, personal protective equipment, injury/illness prevention and medical surveillance, EHS auditing and training.
- COMPLIANCE: Responsible for regulatory reporting and compliance to state, federal and local agencies. Prepares, submits, and monitors compliance with regulatory permits.
- PROJECTS, SITE DEVELOPMENT: Evaluates EHS implications of new R&D projects and site process changes and participates in site project teams as appropriate. Mentors and helps build EHS awareness in all employees especially those new to the site.
Requirements
- MS/MPH in industrial hygiene, environmental or related field and 3-5 years’ experience in EHS. BS is acceptable with appropriate work experience.
- Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) preferred.
- Excellent communication skills and the desire to work with a multidisciplinary team including strong analytical and organizational skills.
- Highly motivated with strong problem-solving skills and be capable of working independently or in a collaborative setting.
- Ability to effectively manage hazard recognition and knowledge of control methodologies.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Industrial hygiene general principles and monitoring techniques.
- Ability to interpret corporate and business guidelines and local, state and federal regulations applicability and willingness to seek the guidance of business EHS subject matter experts.
